Common failures
What goes wrong on True Residential.
Glass door fogging from a failed anti-condensate heater
Distinctive to glass-door units. A low-wattage heater around the glass keeps condensation off, and when it fails the door fogs permanently. Owners assume a seal problem; it's usually the heater circuit.
Condenser clogged in a built-in cavity
Commercial-grade compressors move real heat, and they need the airflow to shed it. Cabinetry-integrated installs choke the condenser with dust and lint faster than anyone expects.
Evaporator fan failing in the forced-air system
These units cool by moving air, not by passive convection. A weak or dead evaporator fan produces uneven temperatures long before the compressor is anywhere near failing.
Door gaskets compressing on heavy doors
True doors are heavy by design and the gaskets carry that weight every cycle. A compressed or torn seal keeps the compressor running continuously.
Control board and sensor drift
Digital controls on the newer generations drift or fail outright, and the unit holds a temperature that doesn't match the display. We verify with our own instruments rather than trusting the panel.
Commercial-grade parts, residential setting
Not a fault, but it changes the repair. Components are specified for commercial duty, which is why these units last — and why the parts channel is different from a mass-market brand.

We approach it as commercial refrigeration
Forced-air architecture, commercial compressors and stainless interiors mean the diagnostic sequence is the one we use on reach-in equipment. Our commercial technicians handle these, and it makes a difference.
Sealed system work is EPA-regulated and done by the book
Refrigerant work requires certification. Our technicians are EPA 608 certified, and refrigerant is recovered and charged properly rather than topped up and hoped for.
Glass-door heaters get tested, not guessed at
Fogging has three plausible causes and only one of them is the gasket. We test the anti-condensate circuit before selling anyone a seal.
Built-in units serviced in place
Column and undercounter installations are set into millwork to tight tolerances. We work in position where possible and protect the cabinetry when a unit has to come out.

Before you call.
The glass door on my True unit fogs up constantly. Is the seal gone?
Usually not. Glass-door units run a low-wattage anti-condensate heater around the glass to keep condensation off, and a failed heater circuit produces exactly this symptom. We test the circuit before touching the gasket.
Is True Residential the same as the commercial True equipment?
Same manufacturer and much of the same architecture — forced-air cooling, commercial-grade compressors, stainless interiors — packaged for residential kitchens. That's precisely why we put commercial refrigeration technicians on these calls.
My column holds different temperatures top to bottom. Why?
These units distribute cold by moving air. Uneven temperature almost always means the evaporator fan is weakening or airflow inside the cabinet is obstructed, not that the compressor is failing.
Do you handle sealed system and refrigerant work?
Yes. Our technicians hold EPA 608 certification, refrigerant is recovered and recharged to specification, and we document what was done.
