Sub-Zero repair
in the Bay Area
Sub-Zero builds refrigeration and almost nothing else, and it shows in how the units are engineered — dual compressors, sealed systems designed to outlast the kitchen around them, and cabinetry integration that means you can't just roll the unit out to work on it. Servicing one is closer to refrigeration work than appliance work.

What we service
Sub-Zero equipment we work on.
Built-in & integrated refrigerators
Full-height and over-under units set into cabinetry, where the fix has to happen in place rather than by pulling the unit out.
- Dual refrigeration system diagnosis
- Evaporator and condenser fan replacement
- Defrost system and drain repair
- Door gasket and hinge alignment
Refrigerator & freezer columns
Separate fridge and freezer towers, each with its own sealed system — two independent systems to diagnose rather than one.
- Independent column system diagnosis
- Compressor and sealed system work
- Control board and sensor repair
- Panel-ready door alignment
Undercounter, wine & ice
Beverage centers, undercounter drawers, wine units and built-in ice machines, where temperature stability matters more than raw capacity.
- Temperature and humidity control faults
- Compressor and condenser service
- Door seal and drawer glide repair
- Ice machine module and water line service
Common failures
What goes wrong on Sub-Zero.
Condenser coils clogged with dust
The single most common Sub-Zero call we take. These units need the condenser cleared roughly every six to twelve months, and most owners never learn that — the compressor runs hot and long until something else fails downstream.
Evaporator fan motor gives out
When the fan stops moving air across the coil, one compartment goes warm while the other stays cold. It's a common point of confusion because the unit still sounds like it's running.
Door gaskets lose their seal
Sub-Zero's magnetic seals are excellent when they're intact, but a gasket that's dried out or torn lets humid air in continuously and keeps the compressor from ever cycling off.
Defrost heater or drain fails
Frost builds on the evaporator until airflow is restricted, or the drain clogs and water finds its way to the floor of the cabinet.
Ice maker stops or slows
Usually the fill valve or a frozen fill tube rather than the ice maker module itself — worth checking the water supply before anything gets replaced.
Control board faults on older units
Boards on earlier series can develop faults after years of heat cycling. We diagnose the board before replacing it, since a single relay or connection is often the real problem.

How we approach it
What's different about servicing Sub-Zero.
Cabinetry integration changes the whole job
These units are built into millwork with tight tolerances. Access, panel removal and re-alignment are part of the repair, not an afterthought — and doing it wrong leaves you with doors that don't sit flush.
Two sealed systems, not one
Dual refrigeration means a fault can live entirely in one half of the unit. Diagnosing which system is at fault comes before any parts conversation.
Sealed-system work needs EPA certification
Compressor and refrigerant work on these units is regulated. Our technicians are EPA 608 certified and refrigerant is recovered and charged by the book.
Manufacturer coverage may still apply
Sub-Zero's sealed system carries longer factory coverage than most appliances. We check whether your unit is still covered before quoting you for work you might not need to pay for.
Model lines we service
Classic series (formerly 600 and 500 series), Designer series, PRO series, undercounter and wine storage units. Wolf and Cove equipment from the same group is also serviced.

Questions
Before you call.
How often does a Sub-Zero condenser need cleaning?
Every six to twelve months, and more often in a home with pets. It's the cheapest maintenance item on the unit and the one that prevents the most expensive failures.
Is a 15-year-old Sub-Zero worth repairing?
Usually yes — these units were built to run far longer than a standard freestanding refrigerator, and replacement means new cabinetry work as well as a new appliance. We'll tell you honestly when a sealed-system failure changes that math.
Can you work on the unit without pulling it out of the cabinetry?
In most cases, yes. Most Sub-Zero service happens in place — that's how the units are designed to be worked on.
Do you handle refrigerant legally?
Yes. Our technicians are EPA 608 certified, and refrigerant is recovered and recharged properly rather than topped off on a leaking system.
How much does Sub-Zero repair cost?
It depends entirely on the fault — a condenser cleaning and a sealed-system repair are different orders of magnitude. We diagnose first and give you a written price before anything starts.
Do you service Wolf and Cove too?
Yes. Wolf cooking equipment and Cove dishwashers come from the same group and we service both alongside Sub-Zero refrigeration.
