Thermador repair
in the Bay Area

Thermador is a cooking-first brand, and its signature features are exactly where the service calls cluster — the Star Burner's shape, the ExtraLow simmer system and the Freedom induction boards all do something distinctive, and each fails in its own particular way. Kitchens across the Peninsula are full of these, and we see the same handful of faults over and over.

Common failures

What goes wrong on Thermador.

Star Burner won't light or lights unevenly

The star-shaped port design spreads flame well, but it also gives food and grease more places to lodge. Most no-light calls are a clogged port or a tired spark module rather than a valve.

ExtraLow simmer stops holding low heat

The simmer system cycles the burner to hold very low temperatures. When the cycling control drifts, you lose the feature that made you buy the range in the first place.

Control board fails after a self-clean cycle

Self-clean puts serious heat into the cavity and everything around it. Board and door-lock failures cluster in the days right after a self-clean runs.

Oven temperature drifts off calibration

A sensor that's shifted twenty or thirty degrees produces consistently wrong results without ever looking broken. Often correctable without parts.

Freedom induction zones stop detecting cookware

Board- and coil-driven, and worth diagnosing properly — the cause can be as simple as the wrong pan or as involved as the control board underneath.

Door hinges sag on heavy oven doors

Professional-series doors are heavy. Hinges that have lost tension let heat escape and throw off baking long before the door visibly hangs wrong.

Sapphire dishwasher leaves film or won't drain

Two separate faults that arrive together often enough to confuse people. Film is usually hard water and rinse-aid dosing rather than a defect; a machine that won't drain is the pump or a blocked path, and we test which before touching anything.

Steam and speed ovens scale up

Anything that runs Bay Area water through a heating system collects mineral deposits. On steam ovens this shows as weak steam and longer cycles, and descaling is genuine maintenance here rather than an optional extra.

Column refrigeration condenser clogs behind the panel

Freedom columns are built into cabinetry with a front-vent grille, and once that path is blocked the compressor runs hot for progressively less cooling. Almost nobody is told at installation that the grille needs clearing.

On the job

Thermador equipment we've worked on.

Thermador built-in microwave and wall oven combination
A built-in microwave and oven combination. Stacked units share a cavity and a control system, so a fault in one half regularly presents as a problem in the other.
Thermador double wall oven in a Bay Area kitchen
Double wall ovens. Two cavities, two sets of elements and sensors, and doors heavy enough that hinge tension is a real service item rather than an afterthought.

How we approach it

What's different about servicing Thermador.

Star Burner service is its own technique

The geometry that makes the burner work is the geometry that makes it clog. Cleaning it properly is a specific job, not a generic burner clean.

Shared parts platform with Bosch and Gaggenau

Thermador sits in the same group as Bosch and Gaggenau, which sometimes helps with parts availability and diagnostic commonality across those brands.

Gas work gets leak-tested, every time

Any call that involves opening a gas connection ends with a pressure test before we close up. That isn't optional on our jobs.

Pro-series units are heavy and built in

Rangetops and double wall ovens often need two technicians to pull safely. Mention the configuration when you book so we send the right crew.

The patented systems don't behave like generic parts

Star Burner, ExtraLow and Freedom induction each do something a conventional appliance doesn't attempt, and each fails in its own way. A technician who treats them as ordinary burners, ordinary simmer settings and an ordinary induction hob will misread all three — which is how these units end up with the wrong part fitted twice.

Model lines we service

Professional and Masterpiece series ranges and rangetops in 30, 36, 48 and 60 inch widths, Pro Harmony and Pro Grand ranges, Star Burner and ExtraLow gas cooktops, Freedom and Masterpiece induction cooktops, single, double and combination wall ovens, steam and speed ovens, warming drawers, downdraft and island ventilation, Sapphire and Emerald dishwashers, and Freedom built-in refrigeration columns. Current and older generations both serviced.

Questions

Before you call.

Why does my Thermador burner click without lighting?

Usually a clogged burner port or a spark module that's weakened with age. Both are contained repairs once we've confirmed which one it is.

Should I use the self-clean cycle on my Thermador oven?

Sparingly. The extreme heat is hard on the control board, door lock and seals — we see a clear cluster of failures right after self-clean runs.

My oven bakes at the wrong temperature. Is that a parts job?

Often not. A drifted sensor can frequently be recalibrated, and we check that before quoting you a sensor or a board.

Do you service Freedom induction cooktops?

Yes. Induction faults live in the coils and control boards rather than the burners, so diagnosis means reading the board rather than looking at the surface.

Can you convert a Thermador range between natural gas and propane?

Yes, using the manufacturer's conversion kit for that specific model. We don't improvise a conversion without the correct kit.

How much does Thermador repair cost?

It ranges widely — an igniter or a port cleaning sits at one end, a control board or induction board at the other. We diagnose first and quote in writing before starting.

My Sapphire dishwasher leaves a white film on glassware.

Usually the water rather than the machine. Bay Area hard water plus under-dosed rinse aid produces exactly this, and it clears up once the dosing is set correctly. If it doesn't, the next suspects are a blocked spray arm or a heating fault, and we test both rather than guessing.

How often does a Thermador steam oven need descaling?

Roughly annually in this area, and it's real maintenance rather than an upsell. Steam ovens push local water through a heating system, and the scale that leaves behind is what turns into weak steam and stretched cycle times.

Do you service Thermador refrigeration columns?

Yes — Freedom columns included, and we service them in place. The first thing we check is the front grille and condenser, because a cabinetry-integrated column that can't breathe presents exactly like a failing compressor.
