Jura makes one thing and makes it properly: bean-to-cup machines. That focus is why they last, and it is also why they need a different kind of service from the rest of a kitchen. On most Jura models the brewing unit is not user-removable — it lives inside the machine, and reaching it means opening the cabinet. Owners who are used to pulling a brew group out and rinsing it under the tap are often surprised by this. It is not a design flaw, it just means the annual service is a job rather than a chore.

Common failures
What goes wrong on Jura.
The brewing unit jams and the machine refuses to run
Coffee residue and a dry drive mechanism are the usual cause. On most Jura models the unit is internal, so this is not something the owner can free off — it needs the machine opened, the unit stripped, cleaned and relubricated with the correct food-safe grease.
Water underneath the machine
Typically the drainage valve or a perished seal in the brew unit, less often a split internal hose. Finding which one means opening the cabinet rather than guessing from the puddle.
Coffee turns weak and the crema disappears
Ceramic burrs dulling and scale restricting flow both produce this, and they often arrive together. Owners usually blame the beans for months before either is suspected.
The filter hides the scale problem
A CLEARYL filter suppresses the descale prompt while it is active. Run past its capacity, or fitted without resetting the counter, and the machine quietly scales up without ever asking to be descaled. This is the most common Jura fault we see in the Bay Area, and it is entirely a hard-water problem.
Milk system stops frothing properly
The milk path on these is deliberately fine-bore, which makes the froth good and the blockages easy. Skipping the rinse cycle after a milk drink is what causes it.
False error about the drip tray or grounds container
A dirty or failed sensor telling the board the tray is missing when it is not. It is a small fault that stops the machine completely, and it is usually a quick one.

The brewing unit is inside the machine
Unlike Miele and most Saeco-derived designs, most Jura models keep the brew unit internal. Proper service means opening the machine, not rinsing a removable part — and that is exactly why these benefit from a scheduled annual service.
Filters change the descaling rules, and that confuses people
With CLEARYL fitted the machine stops asking to descale. That is by design and it is fine, provided the filter is actually replaced on schedule. When it is not, scale builds with no warning at all.
Ceramic burrs wear slowly and invisibly
There is no moment where the grinder fails. The grind coarsens over tens of thousands of shots and the coffee gets gradually worse, which is why we measure rather than rely on the owner noticing.

Before you call.
My Jura says the brewing unit is blocked. Can I take it out myself?
On most Jura models, no — the brewing unit is internal and not designed to be removed by the owner. That is normal for the brand. Freeing and servicing it means opening the machine, which is routine work for us.
Do I still need to descale if I use a CLEARYL filter?
While the filter is fitted and within its capacity, the machine handles it and will not prompt you. The catch is that the filter has to be replaced on schedule and the counter reset. Skipped filters are the single most common reason we see badly scaled Juras in this area.
Why has my coffee gone weak and thin?
Usually worn ceramic burrs, scale restricting flow, or both together. We measure the grind and the flow rather than guessing, because the fix is different for each.
Is an older Jura worth repairing?
Often yes. These are built to be serviced, and a brew unit service, a set of burrs or a pump is a contained job against the price of a new machine at this level. We give you the number in writing first so you can make that call with real figures.
How often should a Jura be professionally serviced?
Roughly annually in the Bay Area, given the water. That means the brew unit stripped, cleaned and relubricated, the milk path cleared and the water system checked properly — considerably cheaper than the repair it prevents.
Do you service office and professional Jura machines?
Yes — the WE and X line machines used in offices and small hospitality settings, alongside the domestic range. For commercial sites we can work early or late so the machine is ready before the day starts.
