What goes wrong on JennAir.
Downdraft loses suction
The signature system is also the signature complaint. Grease accumulates along the duct path and the blower works against increasing resistance until extraction is visibly poor.
Downdraft blower motor fails
Motors in downdraft systems live in a greasy environment by design, which shortens bearing life compared to an overhead hood.
Igniter or spark module weakens
Standard on gas cooking — the burner clicks without lighting, and it's usually the igniter rather than the valve.
Control board faults after self-clean
Wall oven self-clean pushes serious heat into the surrounding electronics. Board and lock failures cluster right afterwards.
Refrigeration condenser clogs on built-ins
Cabinetry-integrated refrigeration needs its condenser cleared periodically, and it's the maintenance item owners are least often told about.
Induction zone stops detecting cookware
Board and coil driven. Worth diagnosing properly, since the cause ranges from the wrong pan to the control board underneath.

Older downdraft units are still serviceable
We regularly work on JennAir downdraft cooktops well out of production. Parts sourcing on those is a knowledge problem more than an availability one.

Usually grease built up along the duct path, or a blower motor that's wearing out. Both are common on downdraft systems and both are repairable.
Do you service older JennAir downdraft cooktops?
Yes. We work on units well out of production regularly — the challenge is knowing where the parts still come from, and that's our problem rather than yours.
Are JennAir parts expensive?
Less than the positioning suggests. JennAir is in the Whirlpool group and shares components with KitchenAid and Maytag on several platforms.
